CEO Norm Gruber informed hospital employees of the layoff plans, citing low patient volumes as a major driver. Salem Hospital’s cash flow is currently 31.4 percent below what was budgeted due to the low volumes, according to the report.
Since 2009, Salem Hospital has announced four rounds of budget cuts, with this round being the largest. In 2009, the hospital announced a net loss for the first time in nine years and subsequently cut $9.3 million in spending, including 43 FTE positions.
