Ryan says AHCA will undergo 'necessary improvements'

House Republicans' American Health Care Act is slated for changes as it continues its legislative journey. That's what House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., declared Wednesday after a private meeting of Republican legislators, The Washington Post reports.

House Speaker Ryan said GOP leaders would "incorporate feedback" from House members into the proposed legislation, including their responses to the Congressional Budget Office's score of the AHCA, according to the report.

"Now that we have our score we can make some necessary improvements and refinements to the bill," he said.

House Speaker Ryan's remarks came about a week after the AHCA made it through the House Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees. They also came one day before the House Budget Committee approved the ACA replacement proposal. The full House will take up the measure later this month.

"As the Speaker has repeatedly said, this bill will work its way through regular order and while the structure will remain intact, modifications will happen during the legislating process," AshLee Strong, a spokesperson for House Speaker Ryan, said in the report. "But the reality remains: Members will face a binary choice to either vote for a bill that can pass or vote for Obamacare status quo."
