According to the report, a hospital employee said at least two nurses and a director of nursing services may have been among those laid off.

The layoffs were announced in response to state budget proposals. According to the Washington State Hospital Association, Gov. Chris Gregoire’s budget proposal includes eliminating cost-based reimbursement for critical access hospitals and disproportionate share hospital grants for medically indigent care. Although the proposal is not set in stone, Gov. Gregoire’s goal is to reach savings of approximately $2 billion.
