Pro-ACA groups launch ad campaign against repeal

A coalition of groups fighting to save the ACA from the threat of repeal is launching a "seven-figure" ad campaign in several states warning against the potential effects of eliminating the law without a replacement plan, according to The Hill.

The coalition, called the Alliance for Healthcare Security, includes liberal advocacy groups such as Families USA and Physicians for a National Health Program, according to the report.

The print and digital ads will be disseminated in Alaska, Arizona, Maine, Nevada, Tennessee and Washington, D.C. The states were selected because Democrats are vying to unseat Republican senators in Arizona and Nevada in 2018, and Maine is home to centrist Republican Sen. Susan Collins.

The ad includes information from an Urban Institute study that found 30 million people would lose healthcare coverage if the ACA is repealed, and an estimate from the American Hospital Association that hospitals would lose $165 billion over 9 years, according to the report.

In the ad, a man is shown looking off the end of an unfinished bridge. It states, "Repealing the Affordable Care Act without an immediate plan to replace it is a big risk — like walking off an unfinished bridge."

It emphasizes the fact that Republican lawmakers have yet to decide on a replacement for the ACA. "Tell Congress: Don't repeal without an immediate replacement," it says, according to The Hill.
