In 2010, the state put the hospital up for sale for $500,000 and later lowered the price to $225,000 with a deadline of June 30, 2011. In the absence of any offers, the Department of General Services returned the facility to the state Department of Health and recommended demolishing the 14 buildings and possibly selling the land.
The state ran the former hospital until 1991, at which point it closed. A community group reopened the site as a community hospital but closed in 2006 after filing for bankruptcy. Many of the former hospital buildings are in poor shape, with some including asbestos and lead paint.
Public Welfare spokesman Michael Race said there are no plans for the former hospital, according to the report.
