North Adams-based North Berkshire Healthcare announced Tuesday that it would close North Adams Regional, as well as its home health facility and three hospital-owned physician practices, on Friday. Since the state received just days’ notice of the closure plans, the Berkshire Superior Court was able to issue the order to keep the ED open, according to the report.
A Berkshire Superior Court judge appointed Pittsfield, Mass.-based Berkshire Health Systems to operate North Adams Regional’s ED, according to another report from The Republican. To do so, it has to have an application to operate a satellite emergency facility approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, a process that is being expedited.
Additionally, a hearing has been scheduled for April 3, seeking to keep the ED open for at least 90 days during a closure or ownership transition, The Republican reported.
Hospital officials said in previous reports that the 109-bed hospital had fewer than 20 patients.
