On Oct. 25, hundreds of nurses within the NYSNA voted by a 91 percent margin for the association’s board of directors to disaffiliate from the national group by Nov. 5. The board voted unanimously to move forward with that decision on Friday. Each NYSNA member will have an opportunity to vote within six months on whether the association should reaffiliate with the ANA.
The vote to disaffiliate comes after “a year of attacks” from the ANA on the NYSNA’s new direction, according to the release. This includes suspending NYSNA’s membership, barring NYSNA observers from a meeting that changed to ANA bylaws and demanding NYSNA disenfranchise 300 dues-paying members.
