New York hospital's second rebranding plan sticks

After more than a year of discussions, Patchogue, N.Y.-based Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center officials and community members greenlit the hospital's second proposed rebranding plan, Greater Patchogue reports.

One of the last independent hospitals in the area, Brookhaven Memorial revealed plans earlier this month to rebrand the 306-bed hospital "Long Island Medical Center." However, officials dropped the proposed name after receiving community feedback indicating the name did not reflect the institution's mission.

Officials said neighboring New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health also expressed concern about the potential name, claiming it was similar to the health system's New Hyde Park-based hospital Long Island Jewish Medical Center. However, Brookhaven Memorial officials said at the time Northwell Health's concerns were not a factor in their decision-making.

Instead, officials have decided to rebrand the hospital "Long Island Community Hospital."

Richard T. Margulis, president and CEO of the hospital, said in a statement: "The name 'Long Island Community Hospital' embraces our true identity and the expectations we have for delivering high-quality care with a heartfelt connection, from a talented and empathetic team, in a state-of the-art-environment for all of our Long Island community."

Officials said an advertising campaign reflecting the new brand is underway, the report states.
