New Jersey Hospitals Contribute More Than $18B to State Economy

Hospitals in New Jersey contributed $18.6 billion to the state economy in 2009, according to an economic impact report by the New Jersey Hospital Association.

The state’s 73 acute-care facilities provided $2.4 billion in purchased services, paid out more than $7 billion in employee salaries and provided nearly $1.4 billion in charity care.

The hospitals employed nearly 145,000 full- and- part-time employees, who paid more than $7 billion in state income tax during 2009.
