Gary Gottileb, CEO of Boston-based Partners HealthCare, said hospitals under the Partners system, such as Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, will have to adjust to climates in which the most advanced technology may not be available. Rather, Partners will embrace less tech-savvy but cost-efficient methods in care delivery, according to the report.
Andrew Dreyfus, CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, said providers are not the only ones expected to trim spending — insurers have also learned to live with less by reducing administrative costs, according to a citation in the report.
Mr. Dreyfus also said reducing healthcare costs is doable, since an estimated 20 to 30 percent of healthcare spending is unnecessary or harmful, according to the report.
