Moderate, conservative Republicans split on working with Dems over healthcare

With the fate of the Senate GOP’s healthcare bill in flux, conservatives and moderates within the Republican party are split on the question of how to work with their Democratic colleagues moving forward, according to The Hill.

Lawmakers such as Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., have floated the idea of supporting a bipartisan cost-sharing reduction bill that would stabilize ACA exchanges and keep premiums down while Congress worked on a new bill. While this idea received some support from fellow senators, other members of the GOP balked at the notion of working on any healthcare legislation other than an ACA repeal.

“[Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer] said he’s not going to help us. So are we going to fix Obamacare? The answer to that is no,” said Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus.
