The construction project has gained support from nearby Southeast Missouri Hospital and Saint Francis Medical Center, both in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The planned community hospital would not offer specialized services including neurosurgery, neonatology, orthopedics and trauma care, meaning patients in need of these services would still travel to Cape Girardeau, according to the report.

The state’s Health Facilities Review Committee is currently considering the hospital’s request. A decision is expected during early 2011, according to the report.
