In June, the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board rejected Mercy’s proposal for a 128-bed, $200 million hospital. At the same time, the Illinois regulators also shot down a proposal by Crystal Lake-based Centegra Health System to build a 128-bed, $233 million hospital.
Mercy is now seeking approval of a scaled-back plan that features a much smaller $115 million, 70-bed hospital. The proposal is scheduled for a public hearing in October, even though the Illinois review board has deemed its “intent to deny” for the project.
