Mercy Springfield Communities, a part of St. Charles, Mo.-based Mercy, is comprised of Mercy Hospital Springfield (Mo.), an orthopedic hospital, a rehab hospital, a children’s hospital, five regional hospitals in Missouri and Arkansas as well as Mercy Clinic, a physician clinic.

Jon Swope, who assumed executive leadership for Mercy Springfield Communities on an interim basis in September, will continue to serve as interim president. Initially, Mercy had noted in September that Dr. Scarrow “will be assuming other responsibilities.”

According to a Mercy spokesperson, the decision to change the leadership came “after thoughtful discernment and in consideration of the future of Mercy Springfield Communities,” according to the report.

Mercy Hospital Springfield has recently faced numerous challenges including being placed on immediate jeopardy status, following an Aug. 25 investigation by the Missouri Department of Health. This move put the hospital’s Medicare and Medicaid funding at risk.

Mercy Springfield Communities also paid $63 million to settle fraud and negligence claims earlier this year, the Springfield Business Journal reports.
