Dr. Salluzzo supports a single-payor model similar to Medicare where tax money is used to reimburse healthcare providers, but said that the proposed public option recently debated by lawmakers would have only created another insurance company. Dr. Salluzzo believes that the processing of insurance claims is costly and takes money away from patient care, according to the report.
Although current single-payor proposals have already been rejected, Dr. Salluzzo believes the United States will see a single payor system in 5-10 years.
