The Huntington Terrace Citizens’ Association, however, remains opposed to the idea, saying the hospital has not met with the neighborhood to discuss the expansion. Barbara Sears, an attorney for the hospital, said Suburban Hospital has had more than 35 meetings open to or with the Huntington Terrace association. The association requested a requirement that the hospital meet with the neighborhood but was not included in the hospital’s plans.
The association plans to bring to the Court of Special Appeals a decision by the county board of appeals that permits the hospital’s demolition of 10 houses for the hospital’s expansion. The county’s circuit court denied the association’s appeal of that decision. The hospital cannot close the road until all appeals are resolved.
The Montgomery County Council’s Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Committee deemed the road unnecessary for public use and its closing necessary for the health and safety of residents.
The full council will take a final vote on July 19.
