Bill Mitchell, longtime administrator of what is now Merit Health Natchez (Miss.), died at home Dec. 17, according to his obituary. He was 89.
Mr. Mitchell began his hospital career at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., before enrolling at Washington University in St. Louis, where he earned a Master of Healthcare Administration, according to the obituary. He later held hospital leadership roles in Mississippi, Texas, Missouri, Alabama and Natchez.
From 1974 to 1992, Mr. Mitchell served as administrator of the hospital in Natchez, then known as Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital. It later became part of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems.
“Bill Mitchell was a well-respected leader of the hospital in Natchez and he established a firm foundation for Merit Health Natchez to continue serving the community today,” the hospital said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends for their loss.”
