Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University has created two new grant programs and expanded research support services amid federal research funding cuts.

“Unexpected grant terminations and delays in the federal grant awards have posed significant challenges for Johns Hopkins faculty and their research programs in nearly every academic division,” according to an April 28 university news release.

The university is investing in two grants that will provide short-term funding to faculty members following sponsored funding termination or significant delay in federal grant awards. These grants are designed to help researchers pivot to new research directions or help bridge their research programs pending sponsored funding.

Here are three things to know:

1. The first grant option, JHU Pivot Grants, provides short-term support to faculty members experiencing unexpected funding disruptions. All faculty are eligible and these funds are intended to help them pivot research programs. Funds up to $150,000 can be spent over the course of 12 months. Funds can be used to support research personnel, or equipment, materials or services.

2. Bridge grants will provide short-term support to research programs that have been impacted by significant delays in federal grant awards. Funds can be used to support research personnel, equipment, materials or services. These funds are intended to support research in the near future and can reach up to $100,000 over the course of 12 months.

3. In addition to the grant programs, Johns Hopkins Editorial Assistance Services Initiative is also offering editorial support for grant proposals and journal articles. The office of foundation relations is also increasing consultation opportunities for pursuing foundation funding.
