National Hospital Week — which aims to recognize and celebrate hospitals, health systems and the people who work at them — began May 11 and runs through May 17.

Six things to know:

1. The origins of National Hospital Week date back to 1921, when National Hospital Day was established to rebuild trust in hospitals following the 1918 influenza pandemic, according to Tampa, Fla.-based Moffitt Cancer Center. It became a weeklong celebration in 1953. The timing often overlaps with National Nurses Week.

2. The 2025 National Hospital Week theme is “We Are Health Care.”

3. The American Hospital Association is inviting healthcare workers and community members to participate in National Hospital Week. The group has provided social media and engagement tools on its website, including sample messages and graphics that can be used to celebrate the week.

4. AHA representatives are encouraging the use of #HospitalWeek and/or #WeAreHealthCare hashtags in posts during the week.

5. Additionally, the AHA has provided stories from the field that can be shared to recognize those working in hospitals and health systems.
