The Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: 2011-2015 details the ONC’s strategy for realizing Congress and the Administration’s health IT agenda. The strategic plan, originally published in 2008, is being updated to reflect the impact of the HITECH Act and the Affordable Care Act.

While some comments demonstrate optimism for the ONC’s strategic plan, others have proposed suggestions and voiced concerns about the federal health IT initiatives. Commentators’ concerns include lack of standardized protocols and vocabulary to support data exchange, the ability for patients to have access to personal health records and process management software and techniques.
