IRS Begins Community Benefit Reviews of Tax-Exempt Hospitals

The IRS has begun reviewing the community benefit activities of tax-exempt hospitals, as mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to KPMG.

An official with the IRS Tax Exempt and Government Entities said yesterday that reviews have begun. Hospitals will not be notified they are under review or asked for information, he said.
