The ban ended NIH funding for fetal tissue research. Any projects currently using fetal tissue are permitted to continue until their contracts end. Any future projects involving fetal tissue will need review and approval from an ethics advisory board.
The spending package that sought to overturn this ban was pushed through by House Democrats. The lack of bipartisan support in the House suggests it will not survive the Senate, where Republicans hold a majority of seats, according to The Hill.
