Here are six things to know about the plan, according to The Wall Street Journal.
1. Ms. Clinton pledged to fight total privatization of veteran healthcare, but said she would allow the government to work with private providers on some services, according to the report.
2. She called the issues with the Department of Veterans Affairs serious and systemic and said she would continue to support changes in the VA.
3. More specifically, Ms. Clinton called for government physicians to coordinate and provide care for military-related conditions. Healthcare services for other conditions could be contracted with the private sector, she said, according to the report.
4. The proposal builds on legislation she co-authored with Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), who is also a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, though one of his aides noted Ms. Clinton’s plan includes increased privatization and the aide distanced Sen. Sanders from this, according to the report.
5. Ms. Clinton also called for more gynecologists in the VA, an easier process for employee termination and clearing out disability claims that have piled up, according to the report.
6. WSJ speculates her VA proposal is meant to smooth over previous overly positive comments on the program.
