Healthcare CEOs Identify Top 14 Threats to Business

Healthcare CEOs are most concerned about government response to financial deficits and over-regulation, according to PwC’s 17th Annual Global CEO Survey.

The following findings are from a sector key findings report, which takes a closer look at healthcare industry CEOs’ responses to the 17th Annual Global CEO Survey. Healthcare-specific findings are based on 81 interviews conducted in 28 countries.

Percentages reflect the portion of healthcare CEOs who identified each item as an answer to the question: “How concerned are you, if at all, about each of the following threats to your growth prospects?”

1. Government response to fiscal deficit and debt burden — 81 percent
2. Over-regulation — 77 percent
3. High or volatile energy costs — 76 percent
4. Increasing tax burden — 69 percent
5. Availability of key skills — 63 percent
6. Rising labor costs in high-growth markets — 60 percent
7. Lack of stability in capital markets — 59 percent
8. Inadequate basic infrastructure — 58 percent
9. Continued slow or negative growth in developed economies — 58 percent
10. Speed of technological change — 57 percent
11. High and volatile raw materials prices — 57 percent
12. Slowdown in high-growth markets — 53 percent
13. Cyber threats including lack of data security — 53 percent
14. Protectionist tendencies of national governments — 52 percent

PwC analysts said this year’s findings are consistent with last year’s survey results, when nearly four-fifths of healthcare CEOs were worried about the government’s response to the fiscal deficit and debt burden and nearly three-fourths were concerned about over-regulation.
