HCA Q1 Profits Climb 92%

HCA, the largest owner of acute care facilities, has announced a 92 percent increase in net income and a 4.3 percent increase in revenue for the first quarter of 2009, despite increases in charity care spending, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

The company reported a net income of $432 million for the quarter, compared to $225 million in first-quarter 2008.

HCA attributed the increases to cost controls, growth efforts and patient care.
