HCA Names Dr. Thomas Garthwaite as COO for Clinical Services Group

HCA has named Thomas Garthwaite, MD, as the new COO of the hospital chain’s clinical services group, according to an HCA news release.

In this position, Dr. Garthwaite will support HCA’s efforts to improve quality of care, patient safety and clinical performance. He will also provide medical direction for the company’s coordinated care models.

“Dr. Tom Garthwaite brings seasoned executive leadership and an impressive track record of improving clinical performance and facilitating the use of technology to advance efficiency, patient safety and patient satisfaction in a variety of settings,” Jonathan Perlin, MD, president of HCA’s clinical services group, said in the release.

Dr. Garthwaite most recently served as executive vice president and chief medical officer of Catholic Health East. He previously served as director and chief medical officer of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.

He attended medical school at the Temple University School of Medicine and received additional training in internal medicine and endocrinology.
