The petition asks the state to allow entities to submit certificate of need applications to operate a new hospital at the Pascack facility’s location.

Hackensack is currently in court proceedings to extend its original license so that it can operate the new facility, according to the report.

The 128-bed Pascack Valley Hospital closed in 2007 due to bankruptcy.

The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., and Englewood (N.J.) Hospital and Medical Center oppose the re-opening of Pascack Valley, saying the area does not need additional hospital beds.
