Georgia psychiatric hospital closes, lays off 167 workers

Southern Crescent Behavioral Health System closed its Crescent Pines Hospital location in Stockbridge, Ga., on Jan. 25 and will consolidate behavioral healthcare services at its Anchor Hospital in Atlanta.

The hospital closure resulted in 167 layoffs, according to a WARN notice filed with the Georgia Department of Labor.

"For over 10 years, Crescent Pines Hospital has provided behavioral healthcare and treatment services for children, adolescents and adults with special, and often complex, mental health needs," leaders stated on the Crescent Pines Hospital website. "We thank the physicians and staff for their expertise and dedication to the patients we have been privileged to serve and look forward to continuing at Anchor Hospital."

Southern Crescent told the Atlanta Business Chronicle employees affected by the layoffs were not unionized.
