Former Trump staffers face tough job market after leaving White House

Staffers for most presidential administrations usually look forward to a multitude of offers from the private sector once they leave the White House, but former aides for President Donald Trump have not had such an experience, according to BuzzFeed News.

Many Washington, D.C., firms that usually recruit top talent from the White House have abstained from bringing in anyone from the Trump administration because the reputational risk is greater than the possible rewards.

"[Companies] are all worried about public backlash," a top recruiter who has been trying to place administration officials in new jobs told BuzzFeed News. "That's more real with these guys than I've seen with anyone else."

Though hiring former presidential aides is usually a point of pride for political consultancy and public relations companies, most firms have been actively avoiding affiliation with the controversial Trump White House.

It has been especially hard for younger staffers with less experience outside of the Trump administration to find work.

"A lot of the people in the White House don't realize how tight the market is right now for their services," a former White House official told BuzzFeed News. "Any job they can hope to get on the outside will have to be because of their work before being in the White House."
