Former Sisters of Providence CEO dies

Vincent McCorkle, former CEO of Springfield, Mass.-based Sisters of Providence Health System, died Nov. 24 at his home in Delaware, according to a report published on Masslive.com.

Here are four things to know about Mr. McCorkle.

1. Mr. McCorkle joined Sisters of Providence, which includes Mercy Medical Center in Springfield and Providence Behavioral Health in Holyoke, Mass., in 1993 as president and CEO of the acute and ambulatory care network.

2. He became president and CEO of Sisters of Providence in October 1997.

3. After leaving Springfield in 2010, he became president and CEO of Akron (Ohio) General Health System.

4. Daniel Moen, president and CEO of the Sisters of Providence, who didn't work with Mr. McCorkle in Springfield, but often met with him at meetings of Massachusetts hospital CEOs, said of Mr. McCorkle, "He was very wedded to the mission here at Sisters of Providence," according to the report.
