Former children’s hospital patient returns years later — as a nurse

The clinicians and staff at Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., helped Jessica Lewis beat cancer three times when the now-22-year-old was a child. Now, Ms. Lewis works side by side with hospital staff, as a nurse.

Ms. Lewis was first diagnosed with kidney cancer when she was 6 years old, and the cancer came back twice before she went into remission, according to Action News Jax.

She now calls the treatment, surgeries and time spent at Wolfson Children’s “probably the best thing that could have happened,” according to Action News Jax, as it inspired her to eventually become a nurse.

Ms. Lewis joined the staff at the hospital as a registered nurse this year, working alongside some of the same nurses who cared for her when she was a child.
