For-Profit Vanguard Health Systems Loses $43M in FY 2010

Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems, which is in the process of acquiring eight-hospital Detroit Medical Center, has reported losses of $43 million for its 2010 fiscal year, according to a Detroit News report.

The for-profit hospital operator, which is owned by private-equity firm The Blackstone Group, attributed the losses to the acquisition of two struggling Chicago-area hospitals from Resurrection Health Care.

Vanguard’s CFO said the loss will not change its decision to acquire DMC, which it will acquire through existing cash and credit, according to the report.
