The pandemic has accelerated and created new trends and has forced companies to adapt faster than ever before. Here are five top priorities as identified by global industry leaders that companies should use to guide their decisions moving forward, according to McKinsey.

1. Sustainability

Climate will continue to become increasingly important for the long-term futures of companies, both as a way to create competitive advantage and to earnestly commit to saving the environment. Consumers and regulators are likely to insist on proven sustainable practices from organizations.

2. Cloud computing

Utilizing cloud computing makes organizations more efficient in the long term despite the initial challenges of migrating data. It enables innovation and increased productivity given its speed and scale. Employees should also be “cloud literate” to aid in future-proofing the company.

3. Talent

A company’s human talent should be developed with resources put into growing potential in employees. Instead of relying on traditional hierarchical structures to deploy talent, an organization should look at its employees’ skills and work with them, using training to fill in any gaps.

4. Speed

The sense of urgency that the pandemic invoked allowed companies to move faster than ever, adapting entire strategies successfully. Leaders can learn from this speed, using it to run companies more efficiently and intelligently.

5. Purpose

Leading with a mission and sense of purpose is vital for employee retention and ensuring long-term value creation. Purpose also makes better employees who are more loyal and willing to go the extra mile.

At Becker's 4th Annual CEO + CFO Roundtable, taking place November 2–5 in Chicago, more than 1,500 hospital and health system executives tackle decisions that determine whether organizations thrive or merely survive: protecting margins under cost pressure, choosing where to grow, renegotiating payer relationships, stabilizing the workforce and proving real ROI on technology. This is where leaders work through them together, face-to-face. Apply for complimentary registration now.
