FDA taps HHS lawyer as chief counsel

The Food and Drug Administration has appointed Sean Keveney as its chief counsel. 

Prior to his new role, Mr. Keveney served as acting general counsel of HHS, where he led the department’s legal operations, advanced key policy priorities and upheld legal standards across public health programs, according to an Aug. 4 news release. 

Mr. Keveney also served in senior positions with the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and clerked for Judge William Garwood on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

HHS Principal Deputy General Counsel Robert Foster will take over as acting general counsel of HHS. Mr. Foster will also maintain his role as FDA chief counsel for food, research and drugs.
