The number of nurses who will be laid off has not been specified, but earlier reports said the number might reach 70, according to the report.
The Health Professional and Allied Employees Union claims the trend at other New Jersey hospitals has been to hire more nurses, and that layoffs will leave EHMC understaffed, according to the report.
Maria Margiotta, director of marketing and communications at EHMC, said growing challenges in the industry have led the hospital to reduce staff, but that it will not affect patient care, according to the report.
