Ms. Volkman worked as a healthcare emergency preparedness representative for 13 years, collaborating with hospitals in western New York to implement emergency management programs and protocols. She worked to create joint partnerships between hospitals and other county agencies to strengthen responses to potential disasters.
Ms. Volkman was presented with the award at a Jan. 22 ceremony in the state’s capital in Albany.
“I was so honored. I felt like I was not worthy,” Ms. Volkman told the Niagara Gazette. “I feel privileged to have worked with hospitals. That’s where the response begins.”
