UMMS has agreed to assist in the turnaround of Dimensions Healthcare Systems’ three public hospitals, which include Prince George’s Hospital Center. The university will serve in an advisory role to Dimensions over the next two years, with potential to integrate the two health systems in the future.
The university has penned a $600 million proposal that includes a new hospital to replace Prince George’s Hospital, a university health sciences campus and a primary care outpatient network, according to the report. Critics, including Sen. John C. Astle (D-Anne Arundel), question the high cost of the proposal.
Proponents of the plan believe it is the only way to relieve the county’s health system from hemorrhaging financially. According to the report, the county is spending nearly $15 million annually to keep health system operations going.
