Consumer Health Report survey now contains questions about political affiliations

The annual Consumer Health Report survey, commissioned by Texas Medical Center's Public Policy Institute, will now ask questions to gauge how political affiliation may affect individual views of healthcare, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The survey is sent to residents of five Republican, Democratic and swing states, as determined by their voting history in recent presidential elections. Questions ask who participants plan to vote for in the 2018 midterm elections and if the candidate's views on healthcare influenced their decision to vote for them.

"When we are trying to understand the reasons behind how Americans feel about healthcare, it turns out politics may be more important than other explanations," Arthur Garson, MD, director of Texas Medical Center's Public Policy Institute, told the Chronicle.

Pierson Consulting Group, a market research group based in Silver Spring, Md., is conducting the survey. They expect results to be released in August.
