Three things to know:
1. After Partners CEO David Torchiana, MD, revealed plans to step down in April, healthcare experts began to speculate as to how his successor would handle perceived tensions between the Boston-based hospitals.
2. Brigham and Women’s and MGH founded Partners HealthCare in 1994, and the health system has since grown to become the largest system in the state.
3. Brigham and Women’s President Elizabeth Nabel, MD, told wpri.com that reports of tension between the hospital and MGH have been “completely overblown.”
“You can’t believe everything you read, with all due respect to your profession. The relationship between the Brigham and Mass. General has never been stronger,” Dr. Nabel said. “I’ve been in my role for nine years. [MGH President] Dr. Peter Slavin is a very close colleague of mine. We actively work for ways in which we can collaborate together.”
“I can tell you, as an insider, that Partners is very sound and very stable,” she added.
