Question: What technology has taken on greater significance or value during the pandemic?

Zafar Chaudry: All technologies that are related to remote working: virtual phone lines (we use Jabber), video conferencing (we use WebEx and Zoom), telehealth, virtual desktop infrastructures such as Citrix or VMWare.

Q: How has the coronavirus pandemic forced a paradigm shift in your line of work, from your perspective?

ZC: We’ve completely pivoted to virtual remote working, 4,000 people using VDI and Jabber, with over 2,000 WebEx meetings per day supporting 8,500 staff.

Q: What is one bold goal that you, your team or your organization is staring down for 2021?

ZC: Cost improvement programs that reduce 10% of our costs.

Q: What fundamentals would you encourage your peers to revisit and refine when it comes to health IT and revenue cycle management?

ZC: Look to automation, as 2021 and beyond will impact FTE counts.

At Becker's 4th Annual CEO + CFO Roundtable, taking place November 2–5 in Chicago, more than 1,500 hospital and health system executives tackle decisions that determine whether organizations thrive or merely survive: protecting margins under cost pressure, choosing where to grow, renegotiating payer relationships, stabilizing the workforce and proving real ROI on technology.
