Anthem Blue Cross of New Hampshire Rejects Hospital Contract With Less Than 3% Increase

Anthem Blue Cross of New Hampshire has rejected a proposed contract with Exeter (N.H.) Hospital that asked for less than a 3 percent rate increase, which the hospital attributed to the increased cost of services provided, according to an Exeter News-Letter report.

Anthem announced in June it would terminate its contract with Exeter, effective Dec. 31. Exeter offered the 3 percent increase after this initial announcement.

Anthem, however, argues Exeter’s rates are nearly 50 percent higher than its “peer hospitals,” according to the report. The hospital said its higher costs are due to higher wages necessary to compete with the Boston market.
