AnMed Health to shutter 2 retail pharmacies — 10 workers affected: 4 things to know

Anderson, S.C.-based AnMed Health will close its two retail pharmacies later this month, according to GSA Business Report.

Here are four things to know.

1. The AnMed Health Pharmacy storefront in the 700 block of East Greenville Street in Anderson will no longer have an outpatient pharmacy as of April 11, according to the report. The pharmacy at the AnMed Health North Campus is also slated to close that day. Prescription drug inventory will go to CVS Pharmacy.

2. Garrick Chidester, AnMed Health executive vice president, attributed the closures to competition.

"Over the last couple of decades, we have found it increasingly difficult to compete with the buying power of large national chains in the retail pharmacy business," he said in a news release cited by GSA Business Report. "The time has come for us to refocus our resources on key strategic priorities while aligning with community partners to ensure the continued good health of those we serve."

3. Hospital spokesperson Lizz Walker said in the report the 10 employees affected by the closures will be able to apply for other AnMed Health jobs.

4. AnMed Health will keep its medical equipment and oxygen business, according to the report.
