Contracts for the nurses, part of the Service Employees International Union District 1199, expired Friday, and roughly 80 people picketed yesterday.
Officials at the 328-bed hospital say the nurses earn roughly $4 more per hour than nurses at other area hospitals, but the union disputes that figure. Nurses say Mercy wants to increase nurses’ fee for health benefits from 17 percent to 20 percent while also increasing co-pays and deductibles.
