ACA repeal and replace not discussed during Trump’s State of the Union

President Donald Trump did not mention repealing and replacing the ACA at all during his State of the Union Tuesday.

While President Trump discussed drug costs and “Right to Try” laws during his annual address to Congress and the nation, he made no mention of getting rid of the ACA. Repealing and replacing the law was a legislative priority for Republicans in 2017, though these efforts were ultimately defeated in the Senate.

However, President Trump did mention the repeal of the ACA’s individual mandate included in the Republican tax bill passed in December.

“We eliminated an especially cruel tax that fell mostly on Americans making less than $50,000 a year — forcing them to pay tremendous penalties simply because they could not afford government-ordered health plans,” Mr. Trump said. “We repealed the core of disastrous Obamacare — the individual mandate is now gone.”
