The union and hospitals have been in talks for more than a year, and this will be the third strike the nurses union has organized against Sutter in seven months. Union officials say the major points of contention are sick pay and reductions in employee benefits.
Involved hospitals plan to stay open, but reschedule elective procedures. Replacement nurses will work in place of striking nurses.
Hospitals targeted for the one-day strike — scheduled to go from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. — include:
• Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley and Oakland
• Mills-Peninsula Health Services hospitals in Burlingame and San Mateo
• Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley
• San Leandro Hospital
• Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch
• Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo
• Novato Community Hospital
• Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport
