As of Jan. 17, LSU Health Care Services had roughly 7,200 employees. In an effort to reduce the $29 million gap in its budget, the system is closing pediatric clinics, making cuts to its acute psychiatric services, eliminating obstetrics and neonatal intensive care units and closing one of its rural health clinics.
While 645 jobs are expected to be affected by these changes, as many as 400 of those employees could lose their jobs as a result of the service changes. The other jobs would be “affected” — a term that was not explicitly defined.
