Memorial President and CEO James Hobson attributed the cuts to the economic recession and healthcare reform, according to the report. He specifically mentioned a decline in elective procedures, which prompted the system to “refine” its staffing structure.
The last workforce reduction at Memorial was in January 2009, when it laid off roughly 25 employees. The two-hospital system had approximately 4,000 employees prior to the latest layoff announcement.
