1. Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del., awarded a $215 million contract to begin extensive construction for the hospital’s expansion. The expansion includes a five-story, 144-bed addition to the hospital, a ground-level parking garage and a new emergency department, among other additions. Hospital construction will break ground in September, with a projected completion date in late 2013.
2. Miami Valley Hospital South in Centerville, Ohio, unveiled a $20 million expansion plan that includes a new cancer center. Hospital officials expect to break ground this September, with a projected completion date of Jan. 2013.
3. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board unanimously approved Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill., to build a new hospital in Shiloh. Memorial Hospital can now move forward with its plan to build a 94-bed acute-care hospital, with projected costs estimated to be approximately $118.6 million.
4. North Kansas City (Mo.) Hospital unveiled its plan for a $16 million emergency department expansion. Construction began earlier this month, with a projected completion date of Feb. 2013.
5. A new $100.5 million, five-story patient tower and expansion will soon begin at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine, Texas. The expansion will include 48 beds with space for 60 additional beds, nine emergency rooms and four additional operating suites. The new tower is expected to open in summer 2013.
6. Mercy Health System, based in Janesville, Wis., will be constructing a new $6 million emergency department and clinic in that city. The facility is part of a three-phase expansion plan that will later include specialty clinics and an inpatient hospital.
7. A planned Universal Health Services hospital in Temecula, Calif., broke ground after several delays. The new 140-bed, five-story hospital is the first phase of an “ultimate plan” outlined by UHS President Marc Miller. Eventually, the 37-acre site will feature two hospital towers with 300 total hospital beds, a cancer center, a fitness center and medical offices.
8. St. Vincent’s HealthCare, based in Jacksonville, Fla., broke ground on its new Ambulatory Pavilion and Hospital in Orange Park on June 23. The facility will include extensive ambulatory, outpatient and inpatient services. Final completion of the hospital is anticipated for the fall of 2013.
9. Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.V., which is part of the West Virginia University Hospitals East system, signed a letter of intent to acquire 50 acres of land that will be used for a future medical campus. The plot of land would allow for a new ambulatory center, medical office building, imaging center, wellness center, community educational space and a new hospital.
10. Wake Forest Baptist (N.C.) Medical Center released its plans for a $125 million comprehensive cancer center. The six-story center, which would be completed in early 2014, would have 192 oncology inpatient beds and a courtyard on the upper floors.
