Mayo officials said the replacement facility is necessary because the aging 21-bed hospital cannot undergo much expansion. City officials support the plan because the new hospital and Mayo’s reputation could boost business, according to the report.
Construction details have not yet been announced. Mayo officials hope to have the new hospital open to the public by 2014.
