Where do CIOs see an IT skills shortage?

Almost half of CIOs indicate their organization suffers from a shortage of employees with big data and analytics expertise, according to a joint survey by IT outsourcing service provider Harvey Nash and professional services firm KPMG.

For the IT leadership survey, Harvey Nash and KPMG asked nearly 4,000 CIOs and technology leaders in 84 countries about their attitudes toward various aspects of their careers, including budget, technology and workforce priorities.

Here’s how CIOs responded when asked whether their staffs suffered from a skills shortage in these seven areas:

1. Big data/analytics: 46 percent

2. Technical architecture: 36 percent

3. Security and resilience: 35 percent

3. Enterprise architecture: 35 percent

5. Business analysis: 31 percent

6. Project management: 25 percent

7. Development: 24 percent
